Gaussographs
“Waiting here, away from the terrifying weaponry, out of the halls of vapor and light, beyond holland and into the hills, I have come to [to wound the autumnal city].”
These gaussographs are virtual photographs of unstable models generated through machine learning algorithms from my photos of Ōtepoti/Dunedin, New Zealand. The process mirrors my experience as a migrant: attempting to reconstruct a place from incomplete information, always seeing through a mediating layer of uncertainty.
The gaussian splat algorithm fragments and reassembles space imperfectly, creating images that hover between recognition and dissolution. The city becomes vapor and light, perpetually forming and reforming, never quite solid beneath my feet.
